Lafayette Expeditions Coronavirus Travel Policy as of 15th March 2020

Following the latest news about coronavirus and its impact on the travel industry we have reviewed our Travel Policy during this crisis.

Millions are under lockdown, with countries imposing travel restrictions and border closures. The coronavirus outbreak has been labelled a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). Coronavirus (Novel coronavirus/COVID19) is a disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) virus that was first reported in Wuhan, China in December  2019. Like other coronaviruses, it comes from animals. In China, it’s also called the Wuhan virus. The virus has since spread across the world causing travellers to panic and cancel trips.

Following the latest news about coronavirus and its impact on the travel industry we have reviewed our Travel Policy during this crisis.

As a Tour Operator, we are closely monitoring the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on both travellers and the travel industry as a whole.

The government of Tanzania has issued a strong alert over the virus, and appealed for residents to limit internal travel. However, the government has not issued formal travel restrictions as yet.

We would like to remain as flexible as possible with travel arrangements, and suggest that travellers leave their decisions to the latest possible dates for rescheduling. We are in contact with all of our suppliers and have had a positive response from many of them with regard to postponement terms and conditions. Things are changing on a daily basis, and while this may not apply to all of our suppliers, we have managed, in many instances, to negotiate the following for existing bookings for travel in 2020 and any new bookings made between 16th March 2020 until 31st October 2020 for travel in 2020:

  • Bookings confirmed and secured with a deposit paid will be eligible for postponement for travel up to the 30th June 2021. Amendments must be requested, in writing 14 days before the original travel date, subject to availability. This covers all arrangements and accommodation. Increases in cost due to changes in the travel season or statutory increases beyond our control, will be updated.
  • Bookings that are cancelled thirty days (30) or more prior to arrival will not be subject to cancelation fees. In other words, zero (0) percent cancelation fees will be charged to all cancelations made thirty (30) days or more prior to arrival.
  • Bookings that are cancelled more than seven (7) days prior to arrival are subject to a 30% non-refundable cancellation fee.
  • Bookings that are cancelled less than seven (7) days prior to arrival are subject to a 50% non-refundable cancellation fee.

Refunds

Due to laws and regulations, whereby taxes are paid upon receiving funds/deposits, it is sometimes impossible to make a refund on funds received as it is difficult or impossible to get a refund on taxes paid. If payments have been received, in full or in part, funds received can be used on future bookings. A credit note will be issued.
